European Federation of Families and People with Mental Illness
EUFAMI was founded in 1992 after a congress, which took place in 1990 in De Haan, Belgium, where carers from all over Europe shared their experiences of helplessness and frustration when living with severe mental illness. They resolved to work together to help both themselves and the people they cared for.
EUFAMI is a democratic organisation, registered in Belgium as an international non-profit organisation. We have an ongoing commitment to improving care and welfare for people affected by mental ill health. We also enable our member organisations to act jointly at a European Level, combining their efforts and sharing experience.
EUFAMI represents ~25 million families in Europe (38 member organisations in 24 countries).
EUFAMI’s mission is to represent all family members of persons affected by severe mental illness at European level so that their rights and interests are protected and promoted.
Role in the FAMILY project: EUFAMI will act as a Communications and Dissemination agent in FAMILY, by sharing systematic scientific knowledge, literature work and open science and also by involving family members, patients and health care professionals in the co-creation of the research and innovation agenda and content.
